One of those days...

Yes my friends, I'm sure all of you have had one of these....the day when you wake up and very quickly realized you probably shouldn't have because you can tell by the way things are going that it's not going to be a good day. Let's start with the morning hours....

Monster #1 (aka Shepherd) and Monster #2 (aka Rauly) are given their eggs, bacon and toast....yeah...we believe in a good hearty breakfast. They're allowed their morning quota of cartoons...3 hours - JUST KIDDING!! They're given baths and their beds are made and they are dressed by me, myself and I....in between each venture (and yes, that is exactly what I'd call it...a venture), I am noticing messy floors, messy counter tops, smudge marks on baseboards and before I know it, my OCD has totally come out and I'm on my hands and knees attempting to make my house shine in ways it will never due to the fact that 2 toddlers live here! I decide while scrubbing that I need a gulp of coffee so I grab my mug to find that it's become luke warm (I'm sure every mom out there knows what it's like to pour herself a cup of coffee and never once find a moment to actually DRINK IT). SO, I place my luke warm cup of coffee in the microwave...zap it real good and as I reach in to lift it out of the mircrowave, my long clumsy fingers manage to somehow slap it and it goes EVERYWHERE. I'm not joking or exxagerating...it went all over the freshly cleaned microwave, counters, walls, stainless fridge, mopped floors....(sigh). At this point, I began talking to myself outloud as if I was one of my kids...."it's ok....it'll be ok...it was just an accident". Well, folks...that was just the morning hours. :)

On to the afternoon....

I'm thinking that frest air will do all of us some good....so I pack up my binder and the kids and we head off to the park. Shortly after we get there, Rauly....my beloved strong willed child decides that she would like to butt heads with me about anything and everything....not only that, but Shep was in a funk and begins acting like he too woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Oh brother - what fun! My plan to study is quickly vanquished from my mind as I entertain them with gritted teeth. Shortly after we get there, several of my friends show up...gals from my church that I just love! We chat and visit, all the while my kids take total advantage and run-a-muck! I put Shepherd in time out 3 times while I was talking with my friends and each time he managed to sneak off without me noticing (which if you know me, you know I'm a firm disciplinarian and I was TOTALLY irked each time I saw he had slipped away). Rauly too does several things that are innappropriate and I finally tell my friends that we're going to have to bail out....oh but only it were that easy, right?! Rauly decides she's going to pick that very moment to run away from me....and if you've ever been to the F.I. Library park - you know there is LOTS of space to run...am I right Melody, Jamie and Brie?! Oh, I can laugh now but it was SO NOT FUNNY at the time! I was not about to chase after her...but boy did I look like an idiot when my child managed to run from me over and over again. Yeah I know...all of you think you could discipline her better then me - I'd just love to see you try!...any takers?! ;) On the way home, I tell them each that they'll be receiving spankin's for their poor choices and behavior - HOWEVER - I did the dreaded threaten-but-no-follow-through because when I got home, I completely forgot the promised disciplining! Of course there are many legitimate reasons for my forgetfulness...like the screams for lunch, the constant talking from "Mr. Jabberwocky" (and yes...we call Shep that with affection), and of course, the many fights I had to break up between the two of them. I felt like there was an actual tornado going on around me and I was just spinning in circles....whew! Did I mention that it's now after 1pm and I still haven't eaten or had more then a sip of lukewarm coffee?!

And as if that wasn't enough...yes...it gets worse. Let's move on to the late afternoon/evening hours...

My sis-in-law is on a mini-vacation and asked if we could help out with her cute lil' pup - Henry. No prob, Bob! The kids love him and we do too - so we quickly agreed to help. SO, after the kids naptime, we head over to get Henry and take him for a walk and a trip to the park. We walk the whole way (not that far but with two toddlers...it took a long time!). We finally get to the park and we play for a good 1.5 hours and then decide to head back home. It wasn't until we got to our driveway 30 minutes later that I realized I had somehow...somewhere....managed to drop Jenny's house key. ALL of Henry's stuff (food, carrier, doggie purse, treats, toys, baby gate...ect) was in her house still and I was now locked out! I immediately call my mom-in-law to see if she has a spare to which she isn't sure, SO....I turn around with the kids and we start "the search". We searched for who knows how long before giving up with a defeated kick in the air! I am so frustrated at this point that I just want to cry but have learned that crying does absolutely no good so I put all my energy in to cleaning....that DOES make me feel better! :) I fold clothes for a good hour while the kids played with Henry and once there is literally nothing left to straighten, fold or put away, I decide it's time to run some errands. We do this until I get a call from my father-in-law saying he's on his way over with a handful of keys to test out on Jenny's door....not sure if any of them will work, but he was certainely going to try. While he's doing that, I tell him we'll start our own search again....so it's back to our "path" as Shep called it and we begin our exploration of the grass and sidewalk...acting like Dora and Diego - it was really quite comical. :) And just when Dennis calls to say that he found a key that worked - lo and behold - shining like the sun....there is THE KEY! I really coudln't believe I found it! SO....we trudge back to our car....all the while I'm cradling this key like it's my new baby and we head back home. Jenny, if you're reading this, Henry is safe and sound with his food and water, his froggie and his treats - he's getting spoiled rotten by the kids and is having the time of his life - oh - and I promise I won't lose your key again! :)

SO - that's been my day....how has yours been?!

Oh, Lindsey, I'm so sorry about the key thing...when I get home, I'm going to make 25 copies and place them at strategic locations all over Fleming Island. :-)
Seriously, though, THANK YOU for taking care of Henry...hope he wasn't TOO much trouble....I know he's a handful with two kids to take care of at the same time!
Hope you all are doing well and that today is better--things are going well up here in NY.
I will see you Monday or Tuesday--thanks again!
Love,
Jenny

Oh Lindsey...Thats a really good "bad day" that will be hard to top for awhile I'm sure! Just know it happens to us other moms too, sometimes I will look back on my bad day and say , "okay, God...did I learn what you were trying to teach me!!!???" Bless your heart...I'm glad things went better today!

There must be something in the air, because we've had a couple of those days lately! I really laughed about the coffee part. I reheat my coffee many times each morning and sometime never even drink 1/2 of it!

Funny...this is how every day feels like for me!! I can't ever find my keys and my kids are always little "monsters!" I guess it's God's way of helping us to cling to the Cross and nothing else.

Hey Lindsey! You needed a Sonic drink. It solves many problems!
