Three major things have happened over the past week....

1)The weather in Orange Park got in to the freezing temperatures last week and we had our first woodburning fire in our fireplace! It was soooo nice and cozy! We'll just ignore the fact that it's back in the upper 70's today....

2)I think it is now safe to say that Rauly is officially potty trained! She did it ALL on her own....began telling us throughout the day AND NIGHT when she needed to go potty. We still have her in pull-ups when we go places, although she is a champ and can manage to not have accidents even when she tells us she needs to go and we can't make it to a potty for an hour or longer - can you believe that?! I was so fully prepared to not tackle potty training with her for a while longer due to her personality type but it seems her personality only helped to speed things along....when she was ready - she WAS READY! :)

3)The Jacksonville Jaguars are going to the playoffs!!! WHOO-HOOO!!! We stayed up till nearly midnight last night watching the nail-biting game against the Pittsburg Steelers and there were high-fives all around when we made the final kick!!! While watching the game, Shepherd decided that he wanted to be either a Tight End or a Receiver....his daddy agreed that he would probably be excellent at either position and we look forward to the day when he gets to play!! Chad was telling Shepherd last night how he tried out for the Jaguar team at their stadium and how they sent a recruiter to Harding University (where we attended college) to test him - Shep listened with wide eyes and was so impressed - Chad is loving having a little boy to talk to about boy stuff!!! :)

I also want to brag on Shepherd for a minute. The teaching director at our church came up to be after the service ended and shared with me something that happened in Shep's class today. It was snacktime and Shepherd was sitting next to a little boy named Jude...for some reason this little boy wasn't suppossed to eat the snack that the teacher had handed out to everyone else and she told Jude he could eat Cheerios...this made Jude cry - he wanted what all the other kids were having. SO, Shepherd looked at Jude, put his hand over Jude's hand and said..."It's ok Jude, I'll have Cheerio's with you". He then pushed his snack aside and told his teacher he'd have whatever Jude was having. The teaching director said that Jude suddenly had a big smile on his face and was fine after that - she was so proud of Shepherd for looking out for him and I AM TOO!!!! The dorky mom that I am, I was having to fight back tears after she told me....it's just so comforting to know that your child is beginning to understand and practice the lessons we teach them all day every day!!!

Shauri - your boys are pretty cute too!!! Did Justin play football while at CAC? I remember Aaron playing but Justin was several years older so I can't recall....

That story about Shep is wonderful. You must be instilling those characteristics in him.

Way to go Rauly!! I'm sure that is such a relief for you not to really have to go through all that potty training...from what I gather she has a strong little spirit! And that is such a precious story about Shepherd. I know it really must make you feel good to hear things like that. I'm sure it makes any bad day with your kids seem to vanish!

Wow Linds! As a grandparent I'm just so thankful for the sweet spirit Shepherd is exhibiting toward others! That made me tear up too! And Rauly girl is such a smart little thing. Asking to be potty trained and doing such a good job! I'm proud of you too Lindsey for being such a good mom! Love you! Mom

Yea for Rauly! I'm so glad you got her pottytrained. We're working on that now, so pray for us and email any words of advice!!

I must be a dorky mom too, because your story about Shep made me tear up! I guess it's because I pray daily that my children will walk with God, and those little moments when you realize that God is indeed planting His seed in their hearts mean more to me than anything in the world! I'm so proud of Shep!

I'm proud of Rauly, too, but in more of a insane jealousy kind of way. Wesley is 28 months old and not grasping potty training one bit. He'll ask to sit on the potty, wipe, flush, and wash his hands, but he never actually GOES to the potty. I'm at a loss. I'm getting so much conflicting info, though. Many moms of boys have told me to not even attempt it until he's 3. Then there are the super-moms that have all their kids out of diapers by the time they're 2. I've actually going to have to read a book on this or something! But then again, I started reading Dare to Discipline about 4 months ago and haven't made it past chapter 2! There are only so many hours in a day!

awww, how sweet is he? Did you get Rauly's hair cut? It looks different.

Rachael, I laughed when you said you've heard Rauly has a strong spirit....I'm sure my mom has shared many humorous stories with your mom!

Hannah, I think boys are definitely harder to potty train! It took me several months to train Shepherd and I washed more clothes then I'd like to remember due to accidents. Just remember that Wesley WILL get the hang of it and that is great that he's even interested in the potty (and that you've already gotten him in the habit of washing his hands when he's done)!

Melissa - I didn't cut it - she had just had a bath and I had blow-dryed her hair. It probably looks different because I parted it the other direction...I'm trying to train her hair to go either way so that she won't have a calic (sp?).

That story about Shep in Bible class is the sweetest thing I have ever heard!
