(gulp)....My lil' man?!?! 6'5?!?!

Shepherd and Rauly had their check-up's today...Shep's 3 year and Rauly's 18 month. They both got perfect reviews for health, but I received a huge shock when the doctor measured Shepherd's height on the chart and said, "You can expect Shepherd to be around 6'5 when he quits growing.". OMIWORD - R U kiddin' me?!?!? At this moment, I began picturing my Uncle Craig who is 6'7, my husband who is 6'2, my brother who is 6'3, my dad and myself who are both 6'0, and my mom who is 5'10. (All of you are probably thinking "No wonder!!") BUT STILL - MY baby boy?!?!...6'5?!?! Omiword - I wanted to cry just thinking about him towering over me one day! For all you moms out there wondering how you can possibly know how tall your boys might be...Shep's pediatrician said that when your boy reaches the age of 3, you can take his height in inches and double it - that will give you the minimum that they should be in height when they finish growing. I don't know if that works for girls...I was in a bit of shell shock when he told me this and failed to think to ask whether or not that applied to girls too. Neways, I'm thrilled about the idea that he will be tall and based on his height today,...he would actually be 6'6....(although I realize that surely there's no way that they can definitivly diagnose how tall someone will be)! Rauly measured 75% for height and 50% for weight...she seems to have slowed down a bit in her height, but is still taller than average. She is going to have to accept the fact that she will be taller than most girls - at least her mommy will know how it feels and will be able to convince her over the years that being tall has MANY benefits! :)

Ok, so I've been trying to do the same thing with Jace. I didn't know that you could double their height at age 3! That's neat. If that's correct, Jace will be 6'3. I'll have to ask my doctor if he thinks that too. That's just too cool! Shep can't help but be tall because he comes from tall people! :) Take it from someone who is short, I would much rather have your height. At least you don't have to call your husband in the kitchen everytime you can't reach the top part of the cabinet! You're lucky! I get so frustrated! Ha! Oh well. I'm happy with what God has given me, but he could have put a couple more inches into the gene pool for me. Hope you have a great weekend! :) Love, Shauri

It seems that with having a tall family, you cannot help but having tall kids also. It's truly awesome to see what God will make our kids to be. I hope that Rauly ill be tall also, it's hard being about 5'3" and not being about to reach things.I cannot wait to see what the doctor has to say about Austin when he gets to be three. But right now (at 9 months) he is staying steady in the 90th precentile for height and weight. His dad hopes that he will be about 6'4", so he can play football! We'll see about that (hee, hee ;-) ).

From what I have heard, you can do the height thing for girls at 18 mo. Remember, I told you about Kayden, and she will be 5'4" and that is my height and you laughed...I love ya Linds!

Melissa - I completely forgot about that and I'm glad you reminded me (and everyone else who is reading!). SO, if that's right...Rauly will be about 5'10.

Hey Lindsey! Out doctor did this for my brothers and I when we were little, and we were all within an inch of our predicted height. I'm not sure what the correct prediction rate is, but it worked in my family. :) Anyway, I hope you are doing well! Your kids are adorable and it looks like you guys are having so much fun. Tell Chad I said hello, and you guys have a great summer!

Hey Hope! I'm so glad you commented!! I hope all is well with you in Nashville - are you still in school or have you graduated yet?! Thx for the info on accuracy for that test - how interesting that it worked for all 3 of you!!

Tall is GREAT!! I was always tall for my age until I got into highschool/college and I was a little above average. I was a little self concious about it when I was little but now LOVE it! I am realizing how short people have such a big complex about being short. Rauly is going to be quite a knockout being so tall and blonde! Shep will need to be 6'5 so he can beat the boys off for his sister!
