Advice anyone?!?!?!

I have personally never had pink eye, and neither have my kids until this past Thursday. Shepherd has responded very quickly to his antibiotics and looked 100% improved by Saturday! Rauly however has gotten worse and the infection that started in her right eye is now in both. Here's our main problem with her - she's not responding to the eye drops at all - Shepherd responded so quickly and were not sure why Rauly isn't responding to them at all...has anyone ever had Pink Eye where the eye drops didn't work? I was under the impression that Viral Pink Eye may not be treatable by medicine, but Shepherd had Bacterial Pink Eye and I'm just not sure how both kids could get a different strain of pink eye. Second question - Rauly has been waking up for the past 4 nights literally every hour. She's waking up crying loudly as if she's in pain and we aren't sure if it's her eyes bothering her or something else...she's not grabbing her ears, she doesn't have a fever,...I'm at a loss. Her eyes don't look horrible - they're obviousely infected, but it's not the worse case of Pink Eye I've ever seen. I guess I'm just wondering if a mild case of pink eye could cause enough pain to wake her up that much throughout the night for 4 nights in a row? You're all probably thinking that I should just take her to the doctor and I will if this persists, but I figured that pink eye is fairly common and that I'd just ask my friends if they had any advice before I went and helped pay another doctors salary this week. :) NEWays, it is now 1am and I still have not gone to sleep (much like the previous 3 nights, due to Rauly waking up SOooooo much.) It's hard to be frustrated with her when you walk in and she's sitting up in bed with tears rolling down her face and her thumb in her mouth looking as sweet and sad as can be...I just hope she feels better soon because I don't know how many more nights I can do this!!! Well, she's crying again....gotta go.

I wish I had some advice for you. I didn't realize that there were two types of pink eye. You may just want to call your local pharmacist and ask them. They know more about medication and they may be able to at least suggest a different alternative. I don't know though???? It's so sad that she's in pain. :( I pray that you find something that soothes her and that you get some sleep yourself. Love, Shauri

Hey Shauri - Pink Eye can either be bacterial (which is normally brought on by a sinus infection...which was Shep's case), or it can be viral...which is what I'm guessing Rauly has. We origonally just assumed Rauly would have the same type of pink eye as Shepherd. Thanks for the suggestion about calling a pharmacist, I'm going to do that this morning!...last night was brutal,...Chad wound up on the couch and Rauly wound up in our bed - we got about 3-4 hours sleep. Ugh!

Lindsey, I'll bet Rauly is rubbing her eyes (because there's no way she'd know not to) and re-infecting them. And I can see how it would wake her up at night--anytime I've had it before, it didn't help much to close my eyes because it almost feels like there's something on your eyelids scratching your eye. The pharmacist idea is good--I talked to the Wal-Mart pharmacist one time when I had pinkeye and they were able to help me.

I HATE when my kids get pink eye!! It takes over the entire house and it seems impossible to get rid of. We all get it when one of us gets it. Rauly could be waking up due to the pink eye, but she could also be having bad dreams. Jack started getting night terrors when he was 2 and he woke up a lot crying. It passed and he sleeps fine now, but it was tough there for awhile. Has she gotten in all her teeth yet? Jack didn't have many teething issues, but Molly and Riah did. There first and second year molars were horrid! I thought they were possessed by demons sometimes because they were crying so much and so intensely. I'll pray for you!
